CATA participates at COTA and ATAF conferences

Digitalization was the topic of focus at two conferences recently attended by CATA’s Executive Director. The Caribbean Organisation of Tax Administrators (COTA) chose the theme of ‘Transforming Tax Administration in the Age of Digitalization’ for their Twenty-Fifth General Assembly and Technical Conference in ‘recognition of the role of information communication technology (ICT) in rapidly changing the nature of traditional business transactions and organizational structures.’ The conference, which took place in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos from 22nd to 26th July, featured sessions on topics such as taxation issues for the digital economy, building capacity for tax administrations, and meeting global standards.

The African Tax Administration Forum’s 3rd High-Level Dialogue was held the week after COTA’s event in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe with the theme of ‘Ensuring Africa's Position in the Taxation of the Digital Economy’. The event was attended by senior officials of African ministries of finance and tax administrations, senior representatives of international and continental organisations, and academics. Attendees were requested to explore current proposals for the taxation of the digital economy, present possible solutions that would benefit African countries and explore the potential impact of any changes implemented.
