TOIT Programme 2020

For the first time in its twenty-four-year history, CATA’s Taxation of International Transactions (TOIT) Programme was held virtually. Due to the international travel restrictions following the COVID-19 pandemic, members participated in the 2020 edition of the programme remotely instead of at the usual venue of the Malaysian Tax Academy. Although this year’s programme could not be held in Malaysia, the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia continued to support the programme by providing logistical support and  ensured that the virtual event ran smoothly.

The programme is made up of two workshops - TOIT Tax Treaty Workshop and TOIT Transfer Pricing Workshop. For each workshop, a resource person from the United Kingdom’s Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development kindly provided their expertise.

Both workshops were a week-long, with the TOIT Tax Treaty Workshop taking place from the 6th to 10th July 2020 and the workshop focusing on transfer pricing held the following week. Despite time zone differences resulting in some attendees having to wake up very early or stay up late to participate, forty-six participants from sixteen member countries attended the programme.

This slide show features the team from the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia and the set-up of the virtual workshops.
