CATA at CHOGM 2022

CATA joined several Commonwealth Associated Organisations (AOs) at the recently concluded Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Rwanda. The conference, whose theme was ‘Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, transforming’, comes in the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine and the climate change crisis. These issues have left devastating trails on the world economy and are putting the realization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in jeopardy. During the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting, CATA made a presentation emphasizing the critical role of domestic revenue mobilization as a key pillar in the economic recovery of the member states.

In their final Communique, the Heads of Government ‘welcomed the enhanced collaboration of Commonwealth Finance Ministers’ in addressing the current economic challenges.

Another notable outcome of CHOGM was the admission of Gabon and Togo to the Commonwealth, bringing the total membership to 56 countries.
