Mauritius: Capacity building on behavioural insights

The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) with the assistance of the World Bank organized a ‘Workshop on Behavioral Insights to improve Domestic Revenue Mobilization’ from 01 to 06 December 2022 at the seat of its headquarters.

Behavioral Insight techniques alongside artificial intelligence being new fields in the tax administration arena are providing means to tax authorities to better understand taxpayers’ behavior. In line with international trends, the MRA has embarked in this new field in better understanding its taxpayers’ behavior with the ultimate objective of inculcating correct tax compliance behavior amongst the taxpayers wherever required.

Some thirty officials from the Authority participated in this capacity development workshop in view of providing them a good grasp of this new tool prior to its use in improving tax compliance and therefore domestic revenue mobilization in the country.
